La inscripció s’obrirà al setembre i serà gratuïta i oberta a tothom.La participació inclou l’accés a les diferents taules rodones i conferències, així com al dinar del migdia i a l’espectacle final.En cas de no poder assistir, preguem avisar amb antelació, per a preveure el nombre de comensals al dinar.

El dinar serà gratuït per a totes les persones inscrites. En el moment de la inscripció, es podrà indicar intoleràncies alimentàries, així com demanar dietes vegetarianes i veganes, o menjar triturat.

International Congress on Effective Access to Rights

A meeting to reflect on one of the key challenges facing contemporary democratic societies: ensuring the right to independent living for persons with disabilities through fully accessible environments, services and public policies.

This Congress takes place within the framework of two significant milestones for the associative movement of persons with physical and organic disabilities: the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 55th anniversary of ECOM as the leading organisation in Catalonia defending the rights of this community.

What we aim to achieve

The Congress will bring together experts, international organisations, institutional
representatives, professionals, civil society organisations and activists to:

Place accessibility at the centre of the political and social debate as an essential requirement for guaranteeing the effective enjoyment of the rights of persons with disabilities

Promote the exchange of knowledge and good practices that can be implemented across different territories

Build partnerships between public administrations, civil society organisations, professionals and international organisations

Leading national and international experts in universal accedibility, independent living and human rights.

Joana Massó

Universal Accessibility Officer, disability rights advocate, and communicator. Sh lives with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), she combines her personal aend professional experience to promote meaningful change in public policy and in the way disability is understood. Her goal is to help create accessible, inclusive environments designed for everyone.

Ana Peláez

nternational human rights expert. She served on the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities from 2009 to 2016, where she was Vice-Chair and the Committee's focal point on gender and disability. She is a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), Secretary General of the European Disability Forum, Commissioner for Equality at CERMI, and Vice-President of the CERMI Mujeres Foundation.

Tom Shakespeare

Sociòleg, bioeticista i activista britànic pels drets de les persones amb discapacitat. És professor investigador en discapacitat a la London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine i membre de la British Academy. La seva feina combina la recerca acadèmica, la divulgació pública i la defensa de la inclusió i la igualtat. Autor del llibre “Disability Rights and Wrongs”.

Gerardo Echeita

PhD in Philosophy and Educational Sciences/Psychology, he is widely recognized as a leading expert on inclusive education in Spain. He has held technical leadership roles within Spain’s Ministry of Education and has worked as a consultant for international organizations such as UNESCO, OECD, UNICEF, and OEI.

Stefan Tromel

International expert on disability policy, currently affiliated with the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva. His work focuses on promoting human rights and workplace inclusion of persons with disabilities globally.

Joan Pahisa

He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering and specializes in Natural Language Processing and digital accessibility. He is an accessibility consultant and advisor to ECOM. He serves on the social councils of Institut Guttmann and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat and participates in European Disability Forum expert groups on technological and transport accessibility.

Catarina Rivera

Speaker, accessibility consultant, and content creator. She works with companies to improve the inclusion of persons with disabilities. She is the founder of Blindish Latina, a platform that fights disability stigma. A graduate of Duke University, she holds two master’s degrees: one in Education from Bank Street College of Education and another in Public Health from Hunter College.

Daniel Casas

Senior Accessibility Policy Officer at the European Disability Forum (EDF), where his work focuses on accessibility and freedom of movement, covering areas and policies such as transport, the built environment, accessibility of goods and services and ICT.

Enrique García Cortés

Digital accessibility specialist. He holds a degree in Computer Engineering and two master’s degrees in IT Project Management and another in Accessibility. In addition to working daily with emerging technologies and innovation projects, he is committed to promoting the inclusion and visibility of persons with disabilities.

Ángeles Blanco

Holds degrees in Law, Journalism, and Business Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid. She is a lecturer at the Legal Studies Centre and in the Disability and Older Persons, Hate Crimes, and Discrimination divisions of the Office of the Attorney General of Spain. She is the creator of the podcast Indefendibles and serves as an Expert Member of the Spanish National Disability Council.

Noah Higón Bellver

Spanish activist and public communicator specializing in rare diseases, disability, human rights, biomedical research, and public healthcare. She lives with seven rare diseases, an organic disability, acquired hearing loss with a cochlear implant, and is monorenal following a nephrectomy.

Ugo sin Hache

Content creator, advocate, activist, and podcaster. He was born with Moebius syndrome, a rare condition that primarily causes facial paralysis. He currently dedicates himself to raising awareness, normalizing the experience of disability, and increasing its visibility—both on social media and through talks at schools, high schools, and foundations.

Alan El Ruedas

Content creator who connects daily with millions of people by sharing the everyday life of a person with a disability in an approachable and spontaneous way. He began creating content after sustaining a spinal cord injury that resulted in tetraplegia in 2018.

Event languages

The Congress will be held in Catalan, Spanish and English, with simultaneous interpretation available throughout the event. Sign language interpretation will also be available upon request.

Format

The Congress will take place in person, with the possibility of occasional online contributions.

Getting to the Congress

The event will be held at the El Born Barcelona History Museum, located in the Mercat del Born, Plaça Comercial, 12, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona.

The main entrance is located on Plaça Comercial. The surrounding area offers accessible routes with even paving and no significant architectural barriers.

An accessible event

The Congress will ensure physical accessibility of the venue, live captioning of all sessions, accessible communication and individual support for participants with specific accessibility requirements, provided these are indicated in the registration form. Sign language interpretation will also be available upon request.

Registration

Registration will open in September and will be free of charge and open to everyone.
Registration includes access to all panel discussions and keynote sessions, as well as lunch and the closing performance.
If you are unable to attend after registering, please let us know in advance so that we can plan catering accordingly.

Lunch

Lunch will be provided free of charge for all registered participants. During registration, attendees will be able to indicate any dietary requirements, food intolerances, as well as request vegetarian or vegan meals, or puréed meals if required.
